IntroductionJungle Dragon is a (wildlife) photo sharing site with next-generation social networking features. Jungle Dragon has the photo sharing features of sites like Flickr, the rating features of sites like Digg, the collaborative knowledge management features of Wikipedia, and the credit/level system of games like World of Warcraft. Jungle Dragon takes the concept of user-generated concept to a whole new level, unlike anything you have ever seen before. Through the unique KarmaEngine, users are rewarded for their actions, be it via uploading an image or getting votes from other users. There are many ways to earn karma credits. As users increase their credits, they increase in level. Levels provide a means of user recognition, increase the influence of votes and unlock power features. And that's not it. The karma credits earned with the KarmaEngine can be used to acquire items. Items are like digital playing cards, similar to games like Magic: The Gathering. Each "card" represents one of nature's organisms with an associated cost. Users are encouraged to collect as many items as possible and can even trade them with other users. The unique reward systems of Jungle Dragon encourage users to participate by means of uploading and rating content. What's the point? The primary goal of Jungle Dragon is to become one of the largest wildlife image repositories out there, for all to enjoy freely. The KarmaEngine and rating systems are designed to steer the quantity and quality of the imagery. By being one of the largest wildlife image repositories, Jungle Dragon wants to create awareness and be an educational source concerning the beauty of Mother Nature. In this process, Jungle Dragon wants to provide users a rich, fun experience found in no other web application. In summary, Jungle Dragon is all about building a community-driven wildlife directory whilst having fun! Photo sharingAfter registration, users are encouraged to upload images. Upon uploading, users can pick from one of the image ownership models (donate image to Jungle Dragon, co-ownership, or self-ownership). Credits will be rewarded based upon this choice. This way, users have full control over what happens to their images. After uploading, the image will automatically be stored in a variety of formats. From this point on, (other) users can find the image in many ways (by popularity, category, tag, location, from the user's profile, etc). RatingThe Jungle Dragon rating system is unique. It allows users to rate not only images, but also comments, groups, articles, and even other users. Furthermore, where most social rating applications implement a binary approach (digg, bury), Jungle Dragon presents a leveled rating system that is associated with nature's food chain. For example, a poor image may be rated as "bacteria", where a brilliant image is rated as "King of the Jungle". CommentingThe Jungle Dragon comment system allows users to post comments on pretty much anything: images, articles, groups, and other users. Comments can be nested and rated by other users. Social networkingJungle Dragon provides a wide range of social networking features:
Knowledge managementAs mentioned before, one of the goals of Jungle Dragon is to provide a wildlife directory. This is accomplished by the article system. In essence, wildlife images are linked to an article. One article represents one of nature's organisms. Whilst users cannot create articles, they are able to edit them, Wiki-style. By using the "wisdom of the crowds", the knowledge concerning an organism is enriched over time. This way the directory will offer a large set of nature's organisms, along with detailed information and stunning images. Technology
